I have been practicing yoga for over 25 years at various studios around the country. Christine Griggs is the best yoga teacher I have ever had. Her extensive knowledge of yogic principles, use of music, movement, quotes and stories from all cultures enhance my ability to take the practice “off the mat.” Christine has helped me help clients in my psychotherapy practice with breath work and meditation for treatment of anxiety and depression as well. If you get a chance to study with Christine, you won’t regret it!

Christine is one of my very favorite yoga teachers. Anytime I can attend one of her training sessions, workshops or classes, I do. She was one of the main instructors and mentors in my 200-hour training and I have modeled my classes after hers. Her warmth and compassion coupled with skill and experience with yoga and yoga philosophy all come together for the perfect experience.
— Nancy May-Deming, RYT-200, Carrolton, Virginia
Christine is an absolute gift to the yoga community. Her ability to share her yoga practice, life experiences, and wise guidance with others is a talent treasured by many. Her teachings have inspired me to never stop learning, seeking, dreaming and growing as a yoga student and teacher and as a person.

Christine was one of my teachers at the Yoga Academy where I took my teacher training. Even though I graduated from the yoga academy, I still contact Christine for advice about yoga or anything in life. In her I have a great teacher, mentor and friend. I am honored to be her student and sad that I had to move and unable to attend her classes. I have tried many classes around my new home in Las Vegas, but none compare to Christine’s teaching level, and they lack the personal touch that she offered to each of her students. I look forward to continue my Yin yoga growth through Christine’s books, videos and conversations.

Christine’s yoga class is something that I look forward to the most when I come back home from college. You can tell that she has years of experience in this practice and I have found her instruction so enriching to my yoga journey! I always recommend her to anyone looking for anything yoga/meditation related.

Christine’s classes are always full because her students know they will be blessed during their hour on the mat. Her classes are the perfect distillation of asanas, mindful breathing, sacred music, thoughtful quotations and uplifting affirmations reflecting the theme of the day. She offers modifications and support to insure that each person receives maximum benefit from poses in a safe and supportive environment.
As part of a team offering yoga instructor training, Christine shares her passion for the lifestyle of yoga with those who are themselves hoping to become yoga teachers. Her enthusiasm and joy are contagious. Christine truly lives the life of the Sutras in order to make the world a better place for all.

Christine was one of my first yoga teachers when I began my journey 8 years ago after a near fatal car crash accident. She showed me what my mind, heart and body were capable of, and later taught me in the yoga teacher academy to empower others as well. She has helped shape me into the teacher I am today, and I owe much of my growth to her.

I have been attending chair yoga classes for years in my hometown of Vancouver and attended Christine’s chair class while visiting Virginia. She made everyone feel welcome. the entire session was gentle and respectful. She explained each of the poses carefully, and kept a close eye on how we were doing, reminding us to breathe especially during the difficult ones. Chair yoga provides us with excellent ways of improving our breathing, balancing skills , strength and flexibility. I love chair yoga and I loved my class with Christine. She is a wonderful instructor.

Christine is an excellent yoga teacher. She is very enthusiastic. Since I started taking Christine’s chair yoga classes, I have increased flexibility, improved balance, and have a better understanding of yoga positions, practices and terminology. I always look forward to attending her yoga classes.

In 2014, my life was going through changes, some positive, some not, but all stressful. I found grounding and nourishment for my soul through Vinyasa yoga. As I jumped into Zenya Yoga’s RYT-200 certification on mere faith, I found a mentor, a friend and spiritual sister in Christine, one of our main teachers. Always positively reinforcing, warm, non-judgemental, she always signs off with something I personally love. As one of my yoga teacher training instructors, I was at first a little intimidated. Why? Because she was so in tune with all the facets of yoga, able to tap in as soon as she closed her eyes, in an honest and real way. This touched me. You will never find a more consummate yoga professional or personal gem than Christine.
— Dede Anderson, RYT-200, Dance Instructor, Newport News, Virginia
I feel fortunate to be participating in Christine’s Chair Yoga class. Along with helping my mobility, I am enjoying her enlightenment thoughts. Being a stressed out person, I found her “going through the gate” visualization very helpful. Whenever I am stressed, I walk through the gate to be calmed down by the beautiful ocean and my beautiful garden. Then I go back out and close the gate behind me and I feel calmed down and ready to enter back into reality and bustle of life.

If you get the opportunity to learn from Christine, in any facet, do it! I had the honor of being one of her students for Yoga Teacher Training. Christine has a true gift in teaching others. She is passionate, knowledgeable and loves to share any information she’s learned. She is also always learning herself; a sign of a great teacher. Christine explains concepts and ideas through stories and personal experiences, which not only captivates you, but makes the information easy to understand, feel, and remember. She is always offering availability for questions, help, or advice in general. As a student of hers, you feel supported, pushed and ready for whatever your next step is!

I am 76 years old, which proves there is no age limit on yoga. I have been taking Chair Yoga from Christine Griggs twice a week for 3 1/2 years and enjoy every minute. I never miss her class and plan all my appointments around my yoga schedule. Christine’s class has a flow which helps with the moves. My strength, balance, breathing and relaxation are so much better since taking yoga. She brings philosophy into our yoga sessions and I have learned so much more than yoga, such as kindness, compassion for others and wisdom. I cannot say enough about Christine and how much I love yoga because of her.
— One devoted student Carolyn Harris, Yorktown, Virginia
When I became committed to my yoga practice a few years ago, I sought out an instructor who blended inner strength with a gentle, beautiful flow and I was honored to find that practice with Christine. She is an amazing, genuine guide that holds space for self-empowerment. Christine encourages and shares deep yogic knowledge and experience with her students through her workshops and teacher trainings, and she reveals the courage and strength of each practitioner in each and every class she guides. She exudes a comforting and delightful spirit as she teaches poetic and practical classes that inspire and refresh, and I enjoy continued growth in each moment Christine shares her practice.

I have experienced many blessings in my life and consider Christine one of them. She empowers her students skillfully and compassionately to experience their own truth on and off the mat. Truly what yoga is meant to be. Her dharma talks will stir a sense of renewal, as if taking the fullest purest breath of fresh air. She is a master of her craft and a tremendous person.
— gretchen brown, ryt-200, gloucester, virginia
Authentic, compassionate, and a rare and profound insight into what really matters in life are some of the ways I would describe Christine. All that Christine does comes from a pure loving heart. Her yoga classes are physically and mentally satisfying, and deeply spiritual. I was blessed to have Christine as an instructor in my 300-hour teacher training, have taken several of her workshops and regularly take her classes. All are and have been excellent in every way. Christine is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of yoga. I have benefited from her words of wisdom and from observing her deeply spiritual life. I am truly grateful for her guidance and friendship.

Christine is one of those rare individuals who enters your life as a teacher, becomes a trusted friend and then evolves into a soulmate traveling the same road to spiritual fulfillment as you. She has been my private yoga teacher for eight years as well as my class and workshop leader. When I mention her name to another yoga devotee, their eyes light up with recognition. Christine affects her fellow yogis, no matter their level of practice, with her gift of yoga knowledge and with her love. I am blessed to have her in my life.

I have had the pleasure of taking yoga classes with Christine for the past 5 years. Its a rare opportunity in the area where we live to come into contact with a yoga teacher with the talent of Christine. She has great respect for yoga and the people who attend her classes. Christine is extremely aware of the mind-body connection and of the deep healing benefits of yoga beyond the physical realm. She is highly attuned to her students and modifies to adjust our needs and physical abilities. Christine is one of the most genuine, loving and dedicated yoga practitioners I’ve ever met and one of those rare people you meet in life that you never forget. She has the unique talent as a yoga instructor of taking her students on an unforgettable journey like none other.

I began attending Vinyasa classes with Christine in January 2018 and really hate to miss a class! When I leave the studio, I feel inspired to do something great with my day! During our class, Christine gives us a word -an intention- which stays in my thoughts for the day, and often longer. She tends to the physical, as well as the spiritual wholeness of her students. Yoga has brought about a calmness and sense of mindfulness in me, which in large part, I credit to Christine’s instruction.

We all meet people who seem to make us a better person for just knowing them, and Christine is definitely one of them! Loving wife, mother, friend and yoga instructor extraordinaire I want to wish her all the best in her venture into the literary world as an author. I am looking forward to the end result of her effort.

Last summer, I had the pleasure to visit Virginia and discover yoga, thanks to Christine. At first, I must confess I was a little worried since I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and have never practiced yoga before. Most of the classes I had with Christine were Chair Yoga. They took place in a very relaxing atmosphere, among friendly people, and I enjoyed listening to Christine’s soft voice, giving clear and precise instructions, adding amusing anecdotes from time to time. I also thought the chair poses, which were gentle and, to my surprise, rather easy to perform, were adapted to my mobility issues, and that they surely would help to improve my flexibility. I particularly liked the breathing exercises. After the classes, I felt a real sense of well-being, and I have no doubt this type of yoga was beneficial to me. I would recommend it to anyone with arthritis. When I came back to France, I looked for Chair Yoga classes which, unfortunately, I have not found yet (apart from online lessons). Thank you Christine for making me discover yoga!

As one of my earliest yoga teachers, Christine inspired me to pursue yoga and later to pursue teaching. She continued to grow as a yoga teacher, expanding her offerings, and her classes were always full.

I had a yoga class with Christine a few years ago, a class she taught at Google in Dublin. It was a true revelation for me, and it was that class that encouraged me to explore this practice further. I had misconceptions about yoga, that it was too much of an alternative practice for me, but Christine completely lifted these misconceptions for me. Her teaching taught me to reconnect with my body and my breathing, to shut the external world down and to be centered. After an hour session with Christine, I was completely refreshed, as if I had spent an hour in a calmer, more serene world. To this date, I’ve kept my yoga practice and it’s truly thanks to Christine and her teachings.

Christine’s chair yoga class at Garden of Zen studio is the first yoga class I ever took. Because of her wonderful class, I branched out to other classes but hers is the measure by which I judge all other classes and the one I try not to miss. My goal for starting yoga was to improve my flexibility and balance. Now at age 74, my life has significantly improved both physically and mentally. I feel more energetic and flexible. I am more serene. I have made new friends which is more difficult as you age. But, it’s not only the class but the instructor that is so important. I am thankful for Christine for being who she is, for her knowledge and her great sense of humor. Although I enjoy substitute teachers, I am always so glad when she returns. She and her class are a gem.

On moving to Virginia with my husband who was on a one year work assignment from the UK, I was lucky to meet Christine at the local yoga studio where she was an instructor. She was immediately very welcoming and sensitive to the fact that I didn’t know anyone. She soon took me under her wing and we became firm friends. Christine has a big heart and will help anyone, It is evident through her teaching that Yoga is her passion, each class is a spiritual adventure. I have not yet been to a yoga class that surpasses hers.

Having been a student of Christine’s Yoga class for 8 years, I can say that she meets and exceeds so many of my needs. Her instructions are always clear and with modifications for those who are on different levels of yoga. What I most appreciate about her is how she inspires me on how to relax, focus, energize and be the best person I can be in my daily life. Her quotes always give me thoughts to ponder throughout the week. She has an inner beauty that shines throughout her sessions.

Walking into Christine’s class on any given day is like walking into a sacred space that she holds just for you. As another yoga teacher taking her classes, I appreciate the gentle tones and the themed quotes with the mudras for the week. They are always right on point with what I need at the time and when I leave her class, I feel much better that before as if I have had a gentle massage of my senses while there.

I met Christine at One Life Fitness after having massive blood clot in my left groin and secondary to that repair a massive stroke in my brain stem. I began my yoga journey in 2009 with Christine. Doing poses as simple as table top were, well my table toppled many times... However, time passed and I listened to Christine about the breath and what was now a challenge is now a release. Christine is encouraging, kind, present, patient and an amazing yoga instructor. Yoga has given me strength both inside and out, clarity, learning to live in the moment and balance. Today I continue my yoga and stand tall through adversity thanks to Christine’s continued support.

I noticed a bumper sticker on Christine’s car over ten years ago. It read, “Yoga is a journey, not a destination.” This observation led to the start of my yoga journey with Christine. She was, and still is, determined and devoted to sharing yoga because she firmly believes that yoga will make the world a better place. I wondered how a form of exercise could possibly make the world better. However, as Christine patiently instructed me and led me deeper into my practice, I grew to better understand that yoga is much more than mere poses. Christine is a widely read and dedicated scholar. She has a wealth of knowledge and vast yogic wisdom and experiences. All of her students gain a broader understanding of the chakras, hear her recite quotes from a vast array of sources, and delve deeper into the mental and spiritual benefits of yoga every time they practice with Christine, I treasure her as a friend and am so grateful for her enthusiasm and dedication to encouraging all on their individual yoga paths.
— barbara daniels, teacher, newport news, virginia
I consider myself very lucky that my path crossed with Christine’s in 2011. I immediately could feel her deep love of yoga, but mostly her deep love of life and humanity, that doesn’t come across when you first meet someone. When I struggle with something regarding my yoga practice, either the asana, philosophy or deeper spiritual side, Christine has always been able to listen, discuss and guide me, but at the same time respect my views.
— frances uhrich, ryt-500, yorktown, virginia
What can I say about this wonderful strong woman? Christine is the most beautiful soul. She has been my inspiration since the first day I met her. She is a free kind soul always caring for others with an open heart.
— Belda Pena, Zenya Yoga studio manager, ryt-200, newport news, virginia
Christine is a wonderful teacher and mentor. Her classes are always enjoyable, both calming and energizing, very balanced. She has a gift for stories, told in her lovely accent and soothing voice. She is always uplifting and encouraging. Besides being a great teacher with many years of experience, she is always open to learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others. I have been especially touched that she has taken the time to mentor me off the mat as well, meeting for coffee or a walk. That she has taken the time out of her busy schedule to share some wise woman time has meant a lot to me. Christine has a positivity that draws people to her and her classes are always full. I would highly recommend reading her book and attending one (or more) of her classes.

I have known Christine Griggs for over six years and there are so many qualities I admire about this gentle, kind, compassionate, brilliant, humble, dedicated, educated, well-rounded woman that it’s difficult to sum up a person of this caliber! I started my journey with Christine by taking her flow yoga classes at OneLife Fitness and was absolutely hooked! I am the type of person who was skeptical about the benefits of yoga because I didn’t think that “sitting and stretching” was something I could do for that long because of my endless “monkey mind” dilemma. I had taken a few classes with other teachers and the energy was not there for me. I took one class with Christine and I was so overwhelmed with not only her teaching style, but the things she says while teaching. She is one of the wisest people I know, and I find myself utilizing her teachings in my daily life. Christine SHOWED me that yoga is a way of life. She didn’t need to tell me because she lives it; you can see it and feel it in her. Christine grounds me, soothes me, challenges me mentally and physically, inspires me and nourishes my body, mind and spirit. Through the years I have been fortunate enough not only to have Christine as my yoga guide (I call her my guru but she is too humble to accept that praise) but she has become a dear friend whom I cherish. She has so many talents, writing one of them, and when she first told me that she was working on writing a book, I wasn’t surprised. Nor was I surprised when I read excerpts from it... which left me profoundly moved. Christine has now become a permanent “fixture” in my heart and brain. I take her with me wherever I go because she has affected me so deeply. I also call myself a “yoga snob” because I cant even take a class with another instructor! She is truly amazing! One last thing I must say about her is that I have utmost respect for her. She is a loving and dedicated wife and mother, and her children are living examples of this. I could keep going on and on about Christine but will stop there with three deep breaths and say Namaste to my teacher and friend
